About Dr. John Shiau

Dr. John Shiau earned his MD from the University of Michigan as one of only ten out-of-state students admitted to its seven-year medical program. Following his residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center, he pursued fellowship training in minimally invasive and endoscopic neurosurgery at Johannes Gutenberg University Hospital in Germany.

With over thirty years dedicated to neurosurgical patients, Dr. Shiau is recognized and respected nationally. His exceptional patient outcomes and innovative approach make him a trusted choice for local healthcare providers seeking expert care for neuro-spine issues.

Dr. Shiau was one of the first neurosurgeons to perform minimally invasive spinal procedures and artificial disc replacement, with over 25 years of experience specializing in same-day ambulatory surgery for all procedures. He has instructed hundreds of surgeons on how to perform minimally invasive spinal surgery, has written peer-reviewed papers and textbook chapters on minimally invasive neurosurgery, and has helped develop many of the instrumentation and implants used in minimally invasive spine surgery.
